The Brand Blarney weeding team was out cleaning up the flower beds in the main carpark at the Fen yesterday evening. In keeping with best biodiversity practices, the car park grassy area will be left uncut until September.
Wild flowers at the middle carpark..25 species of wild flowering herb..these plants support up to 71 species of caterpillar..many bees, hoverflies and butterflies were enjoying this carpet of wild flowers in the sun this morning…such a place should only be cut over in autumn. A damp but still beautiful dawn chorus at the Fen. The birds in good singing voice. Blackbirds stole the show this morning, being the most vocal and melodic, with wrens and moor hens joining in. Thanks to Tom O’Byrne and James Mulcahy for leading the identifications.
