Stoat

Widely regarded as the most prevalent member of the mustelid or weasel family, stoats are abundant across Ireland, often colloquially referred to as weasels since the true weasel is absent from this country.

Identification

Stoats are elongated, slender-bodied creatures with a long, black-tipped tail. Throughout most of the year, their fur exhibits a chestnut or red-brown coloration on the upper side and a cream or white hue on the underside.
