Cat’s-ear

Abundant on roadsides, walls, grasslands, and dunes. Blooming from June to September. Perennial. Indigenous.

Identification

The plant features bright yellow flowers, with a greyish hue below the outer florets. Long, thin, narrow, colorless scales are interspersed among the flowers. Stems are mostly hairless, enlarging at the top, with dark, scaly bracts. They may be simple or branched once or twice. Leaves are oblong-lanceolate in the basal rosette, wavy-toothed, and somewhat bristly. Flower stems typically measure 20-40cm and exhibit significant variability.
